Dear friend,

I just signed a petition with Global Zero to call on world leaders to remove US nuclear weapons from Europe. Will you join me?

http://nukesout.org/

Keeping US nuclear weapons in Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy makes no sense. These weapons are relics of the Cold War: they are dangerous, useless and expensive and do not address today’s actual security threats.

Please join me in signing the petition calling on NATO leaders to remove US nuclear weapons from Europe.

Thanks!

Communications in 2012

What's cool is how fast technology is changing... hard to keep up.

In Person:
Some people like the old way of in person talking over any other
communications type. For those people who are more reserved and
interverted, this communication is difficult.
Often in person meeting get delayed because introverts would prefer
other communication methods.
There is no written record of the event, only what is physically
written down. And writing things down when meeting in person is
considered rude.
Often times, when finishing a meeting, there is no schedualing of a
follow up meeting in person. This is essential, since everyone is
busy...
Often people loose contact details/business cards, and forget about things.

Email communications:
This is a 1-1 communication where there i no verbal communications.
There is no time constraints on responding... so if the person missed
the email, the other person thinks it was ignored or forgotten.
So if you don't respond to email right away,.....

Dear Supporter,

By the end of the day, the Harper Conservatives may have completely changed the way you use the Internet and other media.

Yesterday, the Harper Conservatives once again imposed a limit on Parliamentary debate, this time for Bill C-11, The Copyright Modernization Act. This bill will completely change the way Canadians interact with content on the web. While it has many good aspects, the bill’s “digital lock” provisions are excessively restrictive and are the result of pressure from US corporations. These provisions will lock down content that has been previously available to consumers, and must be immediately revised.

The Harper Conservatives had the chance to fix this bill in committee, but they did not, defeating all amendments from the Liberals and NDP. The Speaker of the House has now selected 18 amendments from Green Party Leader Elizabeth May for debate in the House.

This is our last chance.

These amendments represent sensible changes that will ensure this bill does in fact modernize our copyright law, rather than unfairly undermine our rights as consumers - They will remove digital lock provisions and allow for exceptions, while addressing creators' concerns about the possible effects of the addition of 'education' to the list of fair dealing categories.

Watch & share Elizabeth’s speech in the House yesterday.

Free Maps Gallery - June 1st opening

I'm aiming to have the Gallery Open for June 1st.
This is pending on a few things to be done.
1 - I need to paint the walls celing floor & trim so that it's neutral colours.
I can get paint for free ... i just ask craigslist for it..

I also need to get a printer... regular laser printer, so then i can..
well, print stuff to show on the walls.

Since most of my work is online, it's screenviews of the different
projects im working on...

... and before i start selling anything (like postcards, walking
tours) i need to get my business registered with Saanich, victoria,
the province & canada.

I also need to find someone who will share the space for when i don't use it....
So the space needs to be neutral, and multi-purpose...

So pending the above details... June 1st it will be open.

Bike Across Canada Project

It was over 5 years ago that i did the bike Across Western Canada trip.
I still haven't got the trip journal printed into a book form, but
still do. It's a rather big book with lots of entries that were
written.

The most interesting part about it was the discovery of the lack of
vital mapping information, that does not get shared.
Making the trip across the country to find a route difficult.

So i'm making a route, that people can follow. .. based on the past
routes that people have taken, and shared their GPS tracks for it.

It's a long work in process, with lots of smaller tasks that are
needed to be done.

1 step at a time.
:)

Dear friends,

On Monday, the David Suzuki Foundation joined Canada's other leading
environmental groups to launch a major national campaign to preserve
two core Canadian values: nature and democracy.

Known as Black Out Speak Out (or Silence, on parle! in French), the
campaign invites organizations, businesses and citizens from all
sectors of society and all regions of the country to darken their
websites on Black Out Monday, June 4, to protest changes introduced in
the federal government's budget act (C-38).

Our campaign — in just its fourth day — has already attracted the
participation of thousands of Canadians. And Canada is taking notice.
Black Out Speak Out has gained broad national coverage in major print
and broadcast media: the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Montreal
Gazette, Victoria Times Colonist, La Presse, CBC, CTV, and more.

And it is igniting conversations across the major social media.

This, however, is only the beginning. We would like you to join us in
making this campaign really count.

The federal government is putting the future of our land, water and
climate at risk with the recent federal budget implementation bill.
More than a third of the budget is dedicated to weakening Canada's
most important environmental laws, including measures to make it more
difficult for environmental charities to participate in the public
policy process. This is not only undemocratic; it also undermines the
government's ability to make sound policy decisions and protect the
environment.

We're asking Canadians like you to join us in speaking out and letting
the government know that silence is not an option for those who care
about what could be lost.

Join the campaign today. Sign up for updates at

none blackoutspeakout.ca or http://www.silenceonparle.ca/
style=color: #26797F; text-decoration: none silenceonparle.ca en
français. In the days and weeks leading up to June 4, we'll provide
you with information on how you can get involved, online and in your
communities.

We'll also provide you with the tools you need to darken your own
website, and make a statement on Facebook and Twitter. Follow the
campaign on Twitter with the hashtags #blackoutspeakout and
#silenceonparle, and join our groups on Facebook:

We're going black for a day, but we'll be speaking out for as long as
it takes. On June 4, 2012, join us.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Robinson, CEO

Asus Eee Pad - Charger doesn't work after 2 charges and firmware upgrade

So my cool new Asus Eee Transformer Pad (without dock keyboard)
arrived via UPS from Tigerdirect.ca exactly when expected..

So i started to play with it as soon as it had enough charge to work.
I then had it get to 100% charge, and at about 20% i had it fully
charged again. .. that was on the 3rd day when it wouldn't charge
again.
But this was after i did the firmware upgrade. (I think).

On Google searches i found many different answers. ... none worked so far..

I found that the USB cable works fine, it got recognized at the
computer shop. .. and when i tried using another USB wall plug, it
doesn't connect.

Even plugging it in and insuring it 'clicks'.
I didn't try putting it in the freezer, nor banging it.
... the little plastic piece in the usb broke off... and one pin broke.
.. I didn't check the youtube video on how to reconfigure the connection pins.
1 problem could be the fact that it's a usb 3.0 plug when standard is 2.0

.... I'll update this when it works...

Organizing the Hostels of Canada

As readers might know, i'm working with Backpackers Hostels Canada
www.backpackers.ca in my attempt to organize the listings, so that
they will get a better web presents.

My 1st task (and happely completed) was to make sure that everyone got
a basic custom Google Map.
Not all listings have a GooglePlaces profile (most do), but every one
of them can have a simple map.

My other task (happy completed) was to get all of the listings into
foursquare.com as a 'list' this allows for people to virtually state
publically that they completed it (visited).

I also note which hostels have facebook pages, and administer the
Backpackers Hostels Canada facebook page, and 'like' each of them. ..
so the ones that dont have a page, i make one for them. (if they
want).

I'm making hostel posters which get posted where possable, and now
also to Picasa and panoramio.

These listings serve as the backbone to showing the National Cycle
Route Network of Canada :)

Financial lessons 101 Simple Tips

Here's some financial advice. Things that i have learned, and things
that work.

1 - Prepay your cellphone 1 or more months in advance.

2 - Use the cash envelope method.
a - put physical cash into an envelope for your expected expences, ie,
rent money, food money, bus pass money.

3 - Have an envelope labeled 'ICE' Incase of emergency.
This money ($500) is used as an emergency fund. Say you lost your
job, you'll still have cash to keep you going.
It goes towards an emergency flight.
Used for a natural desaster prepardness.. etc.
This cash you shouldn't touch.

Get prepayed visa giftcards. Then you can only spend so much.

Planning using accounting software (free GNUcash.org) it's just like
simplyaccounting or quickbooks. ... does all the same stuff.

Create a spreadsheet showing your expected income and expected
expences, so you can see how much money you have to work with. You
budget for it. And can even set an exact date when you make the
expence.
:)

And most often, they are given the town map.
So if you like, i like snail mail.

My address is below :)
If you give your return address, i will send you a cool postcard as a
